Each repair job will be unique because of factors like pile/carpet type, area of the repair, and type of damage. Most stains and burns will need to be cut out and patched with donor carpet. Donor carpet needs to be the same carpet, off of the same roll, installed on the day the carpet was installed. If no extra was saved from when the carpet was installed we can grab donor carpet from an inconspicuous spot like a closet or under a piece of furniture. Then replace that area with like carpet but not exact carpet. Buying new carpet to use as donor carpet never works out well. If you are able to purchase the same exact carpet, the colors will be off because of something called a “dye lot”. There is slight variation in shade when dyes are refiled in the manufacture process. So even if you are able to buy the same carpet it is always best to use it to replace the spot where we get the donor carpet and not use it to do the patch.

For rips in your carpet we usually will cut out and patch it like described above. Sometimes if the tear is clean and fresh we can seam it back together without donor carpet.

Lots of carpets get ripped up by pets. They get stuck in a room when they close a door and realize they need hands to use a door knob then try to dig their way out. Sometimes they just smell something and dig in that spot. And other pets can just be destructive and do it for no reason also.  Carpet tearing caused by pets needs to be cut out and patched with donor carpet.

Carpet can also rip when pushing heavy furniture across it. And as long as it only damages the backing it can be seamed back together with special equipment and seam tape. Otherwise we will need donor carpet to patch the area.
